MSRP

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), list price or recommended retail price (RRP) of a product is the price at which the manufacturer recommends that the retailer sell the product. The intention was to help to standardise prices among locations. While some stores always sell at, or below, the suggested retail price, others do so only when items are on sale or closeout/clearance.

Suggested pricing methods may conflict with competition theory, as they allow prices to be set higher than would otherwise be the case, potentially negatively affecting consumers. However, resale price maintenance goes further than this and is illegal in many regions.

Much of the time, stores charge less than the suggested retail price, depending upon the actual wholesale cost of each item, usually purchased in bulk from the manufacturer, or in smaller quantities through a distributor.

Suggested prices can also be manipulated to be unreasonably high, allowing retailers to use deceptive advertising by showing the excessive price and then their actual selling price, implying to customers that they are getting a bargain. Game shows have long made use of suggested retail prices both as a game element, in which the contestant must determine the retail price of an item, or in valuing their prizes.

Additionally, the use of MSRP and SRP (suggested retail price) have been confused. In certain supply chains, where a manufacturer sells to a wholesale distributor, and the distributor in turn sells to a reseller, the use of SRP is used to denote suggested reseller price. In that case MSRP is used to convey manufacturer suggested retail price.

Concepts similar to the MSRP exist in many countries, however, the equivalents of the MSRPs often cannot be compared directly internationally as products and services may differ in order to meet different legal requirements, and price figures communicated to consumers must include taxes and duties (for example) in the European Union, while they do not in the USA.

India does not use MSRP but instead has a maximum retail price.

The requested security information is either unavailable or cannot be displayed.

Problem deleting folder in windows.

thanks to ..

The requested security information is either unavailable or cannot be displayed.

This one has bothered me for some time and I finally found the answer on how to correct it. Sometimes files will be copied from one system to another and the security attributes along with other aspects of the file (or folders in some cases) may not be complete after copying. I especially found this to be true after copy several music files from a Linux system to a Windows 7 machine (that is a war for another time friends). Needless to say, the EXT3 conversion to NTFS of file names and folders gets a little crazy sometimes.

The symptom is that you can not DELETE, MOVE, RENAME, or do anything else to the folder or file name. In my case I was attempting to backup some of my data to another drive for archiving reasons and got all kinds of errors. The security on the folders with the errors was shown like this:

“The requested security information is either unavailable or cannot be displayed.” and had a red “X” displayed on the security tab.

So to correct it you have to go back to old DOS commands from the command prompt to delete the folders. Windows won’t let you do it.

So do this:

Open a command prompt (type “CMD” at the run box and hit enter). Change to the folder where the file/folders are located and then type “dir /x” to make the output display the old DOS 8.3 file naming convention. Find the file or folder here and then type in the 8.3 name of the file or folder to delete. Like this:

9/12/2011  06:47 PM    <DIR>          KIDROC~2     Kid Rock – Cocky
9/12/2011  06:48 PM    <DIR>          KIDROC~4     Kid Rock – Rock-n-Roll Jesus

9/13/2011  10:31 PM    <DIR>          SKIDRO~1     Skid Row – Skid Row
9/13/2011  10:32 PM    <DIR>          SKIDRO~2     Skid Row – Slave to the Grin

9/12/2011  07:32 PM    <DIR>          UGLYKI~1     Ugly Kid Joe – America’s Lea
t Wanted
9/12/2011  07:32 PM    <DIR>          UGLYKI~2     Ugly Kid Joe – Motel Califor

Enough laughing at the Music already! 🙂

So, if I wanted to delete the last folder in the list I would type “rmdir UGLYKI~2” if the folder is empty. If the folder also has files under it as well I simply tell it to use the /S switch (like this “rmdir UGLYKI~2 /S” ). It will ask if you are sure and you will tell it yes or no.

Keep in mind that sometimes the folder will be messed up, but the files IN the folder will be perfectly fine. I am not sure how Windows traverses the folder to get to the files inside if it see’s the folder itself as being corrupt in a sense, but it does.If you want to copy the files UNDER this folder to another location first, you can do that before doing the delete (provided they are not corrupt as well).

The command for deleting a file would be the same basically, except substitute the “del” command for the “rmdir” command.

That is it. I hope that saves someone else some time out there. I am sure I would forget all of this by next week sometime. So, here is it! 🙂

Manually Clean Mailbox Exchange 2007/2010

Recently I had to convert a linked mailbox to a regular mailbox . I disabled the mailbox and to my horror I could not find the mailbox under disconnected mailboxes. First I decided to remain calm (that means PRAY the mailbox was not gone for ever)
I then turned to ‘Dr Google’ and after trial and error I found the key to sanity  . Below I now list the technical steps and relevant links. The following works with exchange 2007 /2010

According to technet I need to do a mailbox cleanup (this process is done on a schedule automatically after normal working hours)

Use the Clean-MailboxDatabase cmdlet to scan Active Directory for disconnected mailboxes that aren’t yet marked as disconnected in the Microsoft Exchange store and update the status of those mailboxes in the Exchange store. This cmdlet isn’t able to update the Exchange store unless the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service is running and the database is mounted.
syntax
clean-MailboxDatabase -Identity <DatabaseIdParameter> [-Confirm [<SwitchParameter>]] [-DomainController <Fqdn>] [-WhatIf [<SwitchParameter>]]

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124076.aspx

This command syntax was a bit confusing so for clarity , below is the command I ended up typing (twice after my first refresh didn’t show anything)

Clean-MailboxDatabase -Identity mailboxservername/Databasename

The cursor is returned within a few seconds and I could now view the disconnected mailbox and proceeded with connecting the mailbox to a newly created windows account.
